There are still a lot of questions at the running back position:
- At the time of writing this there are four, big-name, free agent running backs available: Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Kareem Hunt. Each could completely shift the dynamic of a backfield.
- There are potential suspensions for players like Alvin Kamara & Joe Mixon.
- There are players returning from concerning injures like Javonte Williams & Breece Hall. The impacts on their usage and efficiency, ever looming.
- There are backfield usage questions for teams like: Chicago, Buffalo, Washington, Miami, Houston, Minnesota, Seattle, Atlanta, and Detroit – among several others.
- Saquon Barkley is threatening to sit out the season…
All of this to say, the running back position is still very fluid and many of these questions will not have clear answers prior to draft day. There will be late round steals and, as always, early and mid round busts.
This makes the strategy, for the running backs, tough! If you’re not in a lot of leagues I think it’d be wise to ensure you get at least one of the top-10 running backs. Hero RB is almost a must strategy for mid-to-late round picks.
That said, there are a lot of options for those who go zero RB. The trick will be getting the correct options.
Based on what I’m currently seeing in drafts, I would be more willing to go zero RB in three wide receiver leagues than two; wide receivers are flying off the boards. Shore up your receiving corp and be willing to take Kelce early.
Their appears to be a wide receiver dead-zone between, roughly, wide receivers 20-35, based on current ADP. During which, you can wait at the position without missing out on much from, roughly, wide receivers 36-50.
That said, things will change between now and your draft, if the wide receivers get pushed up even more, than they currently are, it might make sense to zig while everyone zags.
We take what we know, what we think will happen and PLOP… here are your most recent running back rankings!
